Statement of Faith
At LifeSong Christian Church, we are guided by the Word of God, and the Word of God alone determines what we believe. As a church, we stand united in complete agreement with the teachings of Scripture, summarized in the Statement of Faith below.
God the Father
We believe God the Father eternally exists as the First Person of the Trinity. His fatherhood is revealed within the Godhead through His eternal relationship with Jesus Christ, His only begotten Son, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. As Creator, He is the Father of all mankind. However, He is the spiritual Father only of those who have repented of their sins, trusted in Jesus Christ alone for salvation, and committed themselves to follow Him. He has adopted them into His family, and the Father initiates this relationship through His Son, Jesus Christ.
God The Son
We believe that Jesus Christ is the only begotten Son of God, conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He is fully God and fully man. His humanity was essential because He lived a perfect, sinless life, making Him the only acceptable sacrifice for the sins of mankind. His deity was equally essential because only God possesses the authority to forgive sin and accomplish mankind’s redemption.
We believe that Jesus has existed eternally, having neither beginning nor end, just as God the Father is eternal. He lived a sinless life upon the earth, perfectly fulfilled the Law and the Prophets, and willingly offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of the whole world through His suffering and death upon the cross.
We believe that Jesus Christ is the only Savior of mankind and the only Mediator between God the Father and humanity, reconciling sinners to God through His atoning death and victorious resurrection.
We believe the historical and biblical evidence confirms that Jesus is the true Son of God. His sinless life, mighty works, miracles, fulfillment of prophecy, crucifixion, bodily resurrection, and ascension all testify to His divine identity and authority.
We further believe that Jesus is now seated at the right hand of God the Father, where He continually intercedes and advocates for His people. He will return to the earth at a day and hour known only to the Father to establish the fullness of His kingdom. Though equal with the Father in His divine nature, the Son willingly submits Himself to the Father in perfect love, unity, and obedience, accomplishing the Father’s will in all things.
God The Holy Spirit
We believe the Holy Spirit is the third Person of the Trinity and is truly divine in all His attributes. He was and is active in accomplishing God’s will from creation to the present day. He proceeds from the Father and the Son and was sent into the world to apply the saving work of Christ to mankind.
The Holy Spirit convicts the world of sin. It is the Holy Spirit who brings about the work of regeneration and sanctification in the believer. At the moment of salvation, He permanently indwells every believer and is the source of their assurance, strength, and wisdom, guiding and empowering them for Christlike living.
He uniquely endows each believer with spiritual gifts for the building up of the body of Christ. The Holy Spirit guides believers in understanding and applying the Scriptures, which He inspired. Through His work, believers are strengthened to walk in obedience to God, no longer following the ways of this world, but living according to the ways of God and bearing fruit to the glory of the Father.
The Trinity (The Godhead)
We believe in the unity of the Godhead: that there is one true and living God who eternally exists as three distinct Persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Each Person is fully and eternally God, sharing the same divine nature and all the attributes of deity. Yet the Godhead is not three gods, but one God.
We believe that the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are distinct in Person, yet perfectly united in holiness, glory, will, and purpose. Each Person fulfills His own role according to God’s eternal plan, and each is worthy of the same honor, worship, and obedience.
We believe that the truth of the Trinity is revealed throughout the Scriptures and is essential to a proper understanding of the nature of God.
Mankind
We believe God created the heavens and the earth and everything in them. God created mankind in His image and likeness, male and female, to walk in relationship with Him. This means that our highest purpose is to glorify, love, worship, and obey Him.
God declared that all of His creation was very good in its original form before the fall of mankind through sin. Because of this, God entrusted mankind with the responsibility and accountability of exercising dominion over His creation by caring for this temporary home He has given us.
We are also called to cultivate and maintain order within the earth through the development and stewardship of family, work, government, and culture according to God’s design. We are to live according to the truth and wisdom God has revealed to us in His Word. Additionally, we are called to live in a way that reflects His character, nature, and love toward others while showing respect for all that He has created. These responsibilities are given so that we may please Him, the One who gave us life, by walking in obedience to Him and faithfully stewarding all that He has entrusted to us.
Sin Enters the World
We believe that Adam and Eve, through the deception of Satan, freely chose to disobey God by eating from the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Through this act of rebellion, sin entered the world, bringing separation from God, spiritual death, physical death, and the curse of corruption upon mankind and all creation.
Because of Adam and Eve’s disobedience, sin became part of the human condition. Creation itself now suffers under the consequences of sin, and mankind is born with a sinful nature inherited from Adam. Just as sin entered the world through one man, so every generation has continued to experience the effects and consequences of sin.
Sin is not merely an individual act; it affects our relationship with God, ourselves, and those around us. Even sins that may appear private or harmless usually bring destruction and consequences beyond what we often realize.
Because of our sinful nature, every person is born separated from God and guilty before Him. Left in our sin, we stand condemned and deserving of eternal judgment. However, God, in His mercy and love, provided salvation through His Son, Jesus Christ, who died in our place and took upon Himself the judgment that we deserved.
Through Jesus Christ alone, we can receive forgiveness, reconciliation with God, and eternal life. This gift of salvation cannot be earned through our own goodness or works, but is received through repentance, faith in Christ alone, and surrendering our lives to follow Him. Without Christ, we remain condemned; but through Him, we receive pardon, restoration, and the hope of eternal life.
The Bible
We believe that the Holy Bible consists of all 66 books of Scripture, including both the Old and New Testaments. These writings are the inspired, God-breathed Word of God, given through the Holy Spirit as He moved chosen men of old to write according to His will.
We believe that God has faithfully preserved His Word throughout generations and that the Bible is the inerrant, infallible, authoritative, and final standard of truth. It is the supreme and final authority for faith and life, revealing God’s complete will, His plan for the salvation of mankind, and how we are to know Him and live according to His purposes.
As Scripture declares, the Word of God is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, and for instruction in righteousness, that the believer may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
Redemption
We believe that, because of His great love, God provided redemption so that sinful mankind might be restored to fellowship with Him. Although mankind fell into sin, God, in His love and mercy, purposed to restore the relationship with Him that sin had broken by reconciling sinners to Himself through Jesus Christ. God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to willingly lay down His life as the perfect and final substitutionary sacrifice for our sins, shedding His blood on the cross to make full atonement for the forgiveness of sins. He rose bodily from the grave, demonstrating His victory over sin and death and securing redemption for all who repent of their sins, trust in Him alone for salvation, and follow Him as Lord.
Therefore, all who are in Christ are no longer under condemnation but have been reconciled to God through Him. They are adopted as children of God, clothed in the righteousness of Christ, indwelt by the promised Holy Spirit, and set apart by God to walk in newness of life as they are transformed into the likeness of Christ. They live in the sure hope of eternal life with Him.
This salvation is entirely the work of God’s free grace and not the result, in whole or in part, of human works or merit, but is received through faith alone in Jesus Christ.
Baptism
We believe that baptism is to be performed through complete immersion in water and is an ordinance commanded by our Lord Jesus Christ for all who have placed their faith in Him. Baptism is an act of obedience by which believers follow the example of Christ and publicly identify themselves with Him.
We believe that baptism into Christ is an outward expression of the believer’s union with Him in His death, burial, and resurrection, symbolizing that the old life has been put to death and that the believer has been raised to walk in newness of life. Furthermore, baptism represents the cleansing from sin that has already been accomplished through the saving work of Jesus Christ.
We do not believe that baptism is the means by which a person receives salvation or that the act of baptism itself brings about forgiveness of sins. Salvation is by grace through faith in Jesus Christ alone. Rather, baptism is a public profession of faith, an act of obedience to the Lord, and a testimony before God and fellow believers that one belongs to Christ.
Sanctification
We believe God calls us to be holy because He is holy. The process of becoming holy, known as sanctification, is God’s will for every believer. Sanctification is the continuing work of God through the power of the Holy Spirit and the truth of Scripture, within the fellowship and accountability of the local church body, which transforms the believer to become more and more Christ-like.
The Holy Spirit indwells every believer at the moment of conversion and regeneration. From that moment forward, He begins His progressive work of sanctification, bringing the believer into an increasing commitment and surrender to holiness, obedience, and Christ-like character and living. This work continues throughout the believer’s life and will be completed when we are glorified in the presence of Christ.
Isaiah 64:8 gives us a beautiful picture of the believer’s call to submit to God, recognizing our dependence upon Him as the Potter who shapes, molds, and forms us according to His will. It reads:
“But now, O Lord, thou art our father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand.”
Communion
We believe the Lord’s Supper (Communion) is an ordinance given by Jesus Christ to His church and is to be observed regularly whenever believers gather together. Communion is a solemn remembrance and memorial of the sacrifice Jesus Christ made on the cross for our salvation. As we partake of the bread and the cup, we remember with reverence the suffering He endured on our behalf, both leading up to and upon the cross. He was rejected, mocked, beaten, and crucified, willingly giving Himself as the perfect sacrifice for our sins.
We believe Communion is not merely a remembrance of Christ’s death, but also an act of worship and a reminder of our calling to become more like Him. Through this ordinance, we are reminded that we no longer live for ourselves, but for the One who gave Himself for us. It points us toward a life of surrender, obedience, and faithful devotion to Jesus Christ.
Through the Lord’s Supper, believers proclaim the Lord’s death until He returns, remembering His great love, His sacrifice, and His desire to restore mankind to a relationship with Himself. For God desires that none should perish, but that all should come to repentance and receive life through Jesus Christ.
We believe that Communion is to be taken only by those who have truly repented of their sins, trusted in Jesus Christ alone for salvation, and committed themselves to follow Him. Scripture warns believers not to partake of the Lord’s Supper in an unworthy manner, but rather to examine themselves before taking part. Therefore, Communion must never be approached casually or carelessly, but with humility, reverence, and a sincere heart before God.
The bread and the cup are reminders of Christ’s body given and His blood shed for us. As Scripture teaches in 1 Corinthians 11:28-30 (KJV), believers are to examine themselves so that they do not partake in a manner that dishonors the Lord. Communion is a holy ordinance of Jesus Christ, given to His church as a continual reminder of His sacrifice, His grace, and our calling to faithfully follow Him until He returns.
The Church
We believe that the true Church consists only of those who have been born again through faith in Jesus Christ. Every believer is adopted into God’s family by the Father, receives the Spirit of adoption, is permanently indwelt by the Holy Spirit, and becomes a living temple of God. Together, all true believers make up the body of Christ, of which He alone is the Head.
We believe that the local church should seek to reflect this reality by being composed of those who have publicly professed faith in Jesus Christ and committed themselves to follow Him. Through the work of the Holy Spirit, believers are united together in love, truth, and purpose for the glory of God.
We believe that all who belong to Christ are called to forsake the ways of this world and to live according to the Spirit. As children of God, we are to pursue lives of holiness and obedience, being continually transformed into the likeness of Christ through the work of God within us. Our lives should increasingly reflect the character of Christ, bearing fruit that brings glory to the Father.
We believe that believers are commanded not to neglect gathering together but to meet regularly for worship, prayer, fellowship, the teaching of God’s Word, the observance of the ordinances, and the mutual encouragement and strengthening of one another. As the family of God, we are called to love one another, bear one another’s burdens, submit to one another out of reverence for Christ, and care for, support, and strengthen one another spiritually, physically, emotionally, and, when necessary, materially.
We believe that every believer has been called to serve as a faithful representative and ambassador of God’s Kingdom. We are not called merely to be spectators who sit on the sidelines, but faithful servants who actively participate in the work of God’s Kingdom. From the beginning, God created mankind to labor for His glory, and every believer has been entrusted with the privilege and responsibility of serving Christ through the work He has prepared for them.
We believe that the Church has been commissioned by Jesus Christ to make disciples of all nations, teaching them to observe all that He has commanded. Therefore, believers are to devote themselves to the diligent study of God’s Word, allowing the Word of Christ to dwell richly within them so that they may teach, encourage, admonish, and equip one another in wisdom and truth.
We believe that Christ is the Head of His Church and that every believer is a member of His body, each uniquely gifted by the Holy Spirit for the building up of the Church. Just as the human body has many members with different functions, so the body of Christ is made up of many members who serve together in unity, using their God-given gifts faithfully for the benefit of the whole body and the glory of God.
We believe that each local body of believers is to be shepherded by biblically qualified elders under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. These elders are not rulers over God’s people but servants entrusted with shepherding Christ’s flock under the authority and accountability of Jesus Christ, the Chief Shepherd and Head of the Church. They are responsible for guarding sound doctrine, leading by godly example, equipping the saints for the work of ministry, and, when necessary, exercising loving, biblical church discipline for the restoration of those who have gone astray and for the purity of Christ’s Church.
In all these things, the Church exists to glorify God by faithfully proclaiming His Word, making disciples of Jesus Christ, loving one another as Christ has loved us, and living as a holy people until our Lord returns.
End Times
We believe that at a time known only to the Father, Jesus Christ will return to the earth in His glorified body. Believers are called to live in continual readiness by faithfully following and obeying Him as they await His return. Jesus Christ will return in fulfillment of God’s prophetic Word to judge the living and the dead and to reign forever as King of kings and Lord of lords.
Until that day, physical death brings each person’s earthly life to an end and fixes each person’s eternal destiny. Believers immediately enter into the presence of the Lord, awaiting the resurrection of their glorified bodies. There will be a bodily resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous, followed by God’s final judgment, in which every person will stand before Him.
Satan, sin, and death will suffer their final and complete defeat. Believers will dwell forever with God in the fullness of perfect peace, holiness, and joy, no longer hindered by sin or the effects of the Fall. They will receive rewards according to their faithful service to Christ, though these rewards are not the basis of salvation, which is by grace through faith alone. Unbelievers will be eternally separated from God under His righteous judgment in hell. We believe the new heaven and new earth are the eternal dwelling place of the redeemed, while hell is the eternal place of judgment prepared for Satan, his angels, and all who reject Jesus Christ.
In all these things, God will be perfectly glorified as His justice, holiness, mercy, and righteousness are fully revealed. Every promise of Scripture will be fulfilled, every enemy of Christ will be defeated, and His eternal kingdom will stand forever. Therefore, believers are called to live with hope, holiness, and faithful expectation as they await the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ.
